End of Grading Period Approaching!

The students have several projects that they should be working on at home as culminating tasks for the units we have covered during the first nine weeks. This week, they will be presenting a book talk based on a fiction book they have read in class. They will also be taking assessments in all areas to see how well they have understood the material we have covered. The grading period ends on Friday, and report cards will be sent home on October 17th.

On Thursay 9th October, there will be a PTA meeting at 6:30 p.m. followed by the school wide Curriculum Night. You can stop by the fourth grade classess to get some information regarding reading, langugae arts, and math. We hope to see you.

Also, our field trip to see The Nutcracker at the Fox Theater will be on December 12th. The donation of $12 is due by November 3rd. If you would like to chaperone, please let me know.

Update

Your child should have brought home a progress report today. This report indicates the grade that your child currently has in each subject. Students who have missing assignments have 4 weeks to submit all work, and this will help improve grades. Attached to the progress report are work samples, showing you some of the assessments that your child has completed. Please take time to review these with your child. If you have any further concerns, please contact me at school to schedule an individual conference.

The students also brought home a field trip permission form for a trip to see 'The Nutcracker' at the Fox Theater in December. Monies for the trip need to be turned in by November 3rd, so that our seats can be confirmed. The trip will be part of our literature unit on traditional literature.

Coming up in October, we will be holding a Curriculum Night. We are planning on having sessions that will provide you with activities and strategies for assisting your child in math and reading/language arts. Come out on October 9th to see what you can do to help your child.

Weekly Update

Thanks to those parents who were able to attend Open House. I enjoyed the opportunity to discuss our typical day, and I hope you found the information useful.

Last week, we began to focus on the first units in each subject. They are Narrative Reading and Writing, Numbers to One Million, Water and Weather, Map Skills, and Personal Health. Take time to ask your child what they have been learning about, and look out for some projects in the next few weeks.

In October, we will be holding a Curriculum Night. Please share anything that you would like to learn more about, from using technology to how we teach multiplication and division. We will try to plan sessions that address your concerns.

Weekly Update

We had a great first week together. We took time to learn about each other and discussed the rules and procedures for our classroom. The students had very positive attitudes to the start of a new school year.

This week, we have begun to work on the fourth grade curriculum. The students received their first spelling list on Monday, and they will be tested on Friday. This will occur every week. They also received Math workbooks that will be used for homework. Please look at these everynight to review your child's learning.

Open House is tonight at 6:30. I look forward to seeing you here, and will share more information about what I will be teaching during the first nine weeks of school.

Welcome

Welcome back to another exciting school year! I am looking forward to getting to know my new students and families. If you were not able to make it to Sneak a Peek, you will receive your welcome folder on Monday. There are several forms to fill out and return, so please look through the folders carefully.

I plan to use the blog regularly this year as another way of keeping parents informed about what is happeneing in the classroom. Check back next week to find out how the first week went.
