Read, read, read, this summer! Don't forget to join the Summer Reading Club at the Powder Springs Library.  (Many years ago the library was a different building.  Ask your child to tell you what the library was at one time, many years ago.  : )  )  Practice the skills we mastered this school year, including addition and subtraction.  Your children will be ahead in first grade if you continue to ask them questions, take them to different places and give them exciting experiences.  Learn something new every day!

Love,

Kim Possible, Rufus and GP

Above and Beyond Projects

The students who chose to create an “Above and Beyond Project” have really put forth a great amount of effort.  I am so very pleased.  The projects are coming along nicely . . . the types of “Above and Beyond Projects” that are acceptable are:

·        A diorama

·        A poster

·        A photographic essay

·        A pop-up card – the animal “pops-up” when one opens the card.Bat_popup

·        Any other type of project you and your child would like to create.  J

Each student must include these items with his or her ABP:

1.     The student must write 3 factual sentences about the animal or animals the ABP is about – this requires a bit of research.

2.   Accurate details – correct color of animal(s), correct habitat for animal(s),  and correct factual information - written in the student’s handwriting and in the student’s own words.

Thank you for the flowers and treats.  Mrs. Foscarini and I are proud to be your child’s teachers!

We're zooming to Zoo Atlanta!

Mole_rat_dkimages Rufus and I are so excited about the upcoming visit to Zoo Atlanta, to begin our M.E.S.S. (Mind Explosive Super Study), on Monday, April 5th!  We know you are too!

Let's review our field trip rules:

  1. It's OUR job to stay with our chaperones.  We don't want any missing adults . . . they might cry and throw temper tantrums!
  2. We sit on our bottoms on the school bus.
  3. When the bus comes to a stop sign, a stoplight or to a set of railroad tracks we are QUIET as mice. Mouse_cookie
  4. We ask our chaperones if we need to use the restroom.

(Look who's in the cookie jar . . . a very quiet mouse!)

You will have 2 performance tasks (assignments) to complete during your Zoo Atlanta Safari.  Don't worry, you're ready for this assignment. : )

We are studying these habitats:

  1. Desert
  2. Ocean
  3. Arctic
  4. Amazon Rainforest

With your chaperone's help, CAN YOU find an animal from each of these habitats, take a photo of it and then write one factual sentence (non-fiction; informational) about the animal?

Here's an example of what I expect from you:

DKImages (C) December 29, 1997,Sikumi Forest Land, Zimbabwe, Africa

           Dung_beetles_zimbabwe

Here are many dung beetles feeding on elephant droppings in

Africa

.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

You will record your observations in your Safari Journal. : )  You will probably want to create a quick sketch of the picture you took, so you can identify which picture is yours on the roll of film . . . since you're sharing a camera with your sisters and brothers in our habitat (classroom).

Spring Break Challenge

Animated_thinking_cap_9                              What can YOU do during YOUR

             Spring Break?

(READ below for information about the -OPTIONAL- CHALLENGE!)

Well, if Kim Possible can, then you can too!  Here are a few suggestions as to what you can do here in Metro-Atlanta during the break:

Kim_possible_ron_rufus_4

*while waiting to taste all the different sodas the Coca-Cola Company creates and sells around the world World of Coca-Cola,

  • *while waiting to ride your favorite roller coaster at Six Flags,

*while taking a break from reading a GREAT book in the car or at the beach, Animated_reading_fish_3

you can practice your sight words and your number and shape skills (located in your math folder)!  Prizes will be awarded for friends who study during the break.  :)

- - - - And heeeeeeres the Optional CHALLENGE! - - - -

I, Kimberly Ann Possible Roberts, challenge you to "go above and beyond" during your break!  You can even EARN GIGANTIC Prizes!

                               Be CREATIVE!

And, as our friend, Ms. Frizzle says, Ms_frizzle

"Take chances!

Make mistakes!

Get messy!"

Here are a few ways you can achieve your goal!

  • Wherever you are, find new manipulatives for your number cards.  Here's a fantastic example:

If you're at the beach, collect a few seashells or beach flotsam and put your number card next to your new and FREE manipulatives!  Bring your work to school to share with us.

  • Where did you go?  How long did it take you to get there?  How did you travel to your destination? "Show and Tell" - Use a map, and/or photos or drawings, to show us HOW you arrived at your destination.  Then describe, or TELL, us how you arrived at your deAnimated_map_2stination.
  •                                                           J0205374J0283797

Money Egg Hunt

Dear Parents and Students,

It’s March Madness in the kindergarten classrooms!  Ms. Roberts forgot to remind everyone that the money for our Money Egg Hunt and for the prizes (including the Movie Ticket Packages) is PRETEND money! Can you imagine how funny it was when everyone brought their permission slips for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and they brought 30 cents to school too?  REAL money is NOT needed!  J  The movie packages: soda, popcorn, and candy; are being donated by Ms. Roberts.  J

Speaking of money, egg hunts, and prizes; we are going to have our Money Egg Hunt and School Store on Thursday, April 3rd.

We will need adult volunteers for this event from 8:30-10:45.  Please let us know if you can volunteer during this event.

We are practicing our end-of-kindergarten/beginning-of-first grade positive behavior skills.  Please remind your child to listen, follow directions, and learn all he/she can; from his/her parents and teachers, so that first grade will be EASY!

After Spring Break we will begin our addition unit.  We will continue to send home math homework and sight word homework every day.

Have a GREAT week!

Mrs. E., Mrs. F., Mrs. G., Mrs. W., and Ms. R
