October's Here

October is here and we are ready for cooler weather.  The girls are excited about getting their shirts and being able to wear them together.  We will wear them on our first field trip!  I'm sure everyone received their permission form for our trip to Pettit Creek Farms.  We will be going with all the other second grade classes on Wednesday, October 24.  It will be a great trip, so be sure to return the permission form and money by the deadline of Tuesday, October 9.

October is a busy month, so please get your calendar and circle these dates.

Thursday the 4th  Picture Day

Monday the 15th  End of the first 9 weeks

Wednesday the 17th  Early Release Day

Monday the 22nd  Report cards will be sent home

Wednesday the 24th  Trip to Pettit Creek Farms

Saturday the 27  FALL FESTIVAL

During the month of October the girls will have a book report to make on one of the books they check out of the Media Center.  I will give them a form and go over it in class.  It will be their responsibility to get a book that is on their reading level, read it a couple of times, and make the report.  They will read the report in class.  It will be a fun, learning experience.

Please be sure to check your daughter's agenda every day.  Some days they may have a note from me or another teacher, a yellow slip from the cafeteria, or class news you need to see.  Someday they may just have a stamp or sticker.  Every agenda page is important and I'm trying to teach the girls to take care of their agenda.  Ripped or missing pages are hard to write on.  If you write a note to me in the agenda I will be sure to see it.  It doesn't get lost.

Be sure to look back at this blog about once every week or so.  I try to publish information on Fridays.

Please let me know if you have any concerns, problems, or even compliments.  Thanks for letting me teach your most special asset.

Moving Into Fall

Wow! The last few weeks of school have really gone by quickly.  The ladybugs are working daily to improve their spelling, math, reading and writing.  Friendships are being formed every day.

Our new counselor, Ms. Jackson, has visited with the girls twice.  She is very warm and has invited the girls to come and visit her anytime.  She will be working with us this school year as the second grade counselor.

Thank you to all the parents that have volunteered to help our class.  We still need a person to help with our Fall Festival.  Mrs. Griffis has said that she would be in charge of silent auction basket.  This is always a big fund raiser for our PTA, and I'm sure everyone will be willing to contribute when called upon.

Please put the following dates in your calendar!

Wednesday, Sept. 19 Early Release Day

Thursday, Sept. 20 Bruster's Scoop Night

Thursday, Oct. 4 Picture Day

Thursday, Oct. 4 PTA meeting

Monday, Oct. 15 end of 1st nine weeks grading period

Wednesday, Oct. 17       Early Release Day

Friday, Oct. 19               Student Holiday

Monday, Oct. 22             First nine weeks report cards sent home

Saturday, Oct. 27           Fall Festival

The ladybugs are beginning their 3rd chapter in math this week.  This chapter is about graphs and collecting data.  The girls enjoy learning this and will be able to create graphs on their own.  In writing and reading your daughters are learning about narratives.  They have read and are writing narratives of their own.

The quality of the work the girls are doing is improving daily.  I always set high expectations for my class and this one is no different.  I expect the girls to be the best possible second graders they can.

Please check back to the blog from time to time.  Long term assignments will be posted as soon as they are given to the girls.  Look for newsletters to come home.  Also, it is very important that agendas are viewed every night.  All notices and important letters will be stapled to the day's page.

As always, thank you for entrusting your daughter's education to me and Powder Springs Elementary.  If you have any suggestions, comments, or questions please contact me.  Email is usually the fastest way.

A New Year--A New Ladybug Class

Welcome to Second Grade!  This year is going to be filled with exciting learning for all my girls.  As  members of the Ladybug class we will build a support system by relying on ourselves, each other, our parents, and the staff members of PSE.  As your teacher, my goal is to help you reach your goal!  Second grade is a wonderful year, with lots of growing and learning going on.

I have attached a copy of the supply list for our class.  Please bring these supplies to class as soon as possible.

Download ladybug_supply_list.doc

I hope I see everyone at Sneak A Peek on Thursday, August 9 from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M.  You can reach me through my email address, debbie.morris@cobbk12.org if you have any questions.

Have a great last few weeks of summer!

February 25, 2007

Our Valentine's Day celebration was wonderful.  The girls were so sweet to me and all their classmates.  The ice cream social provided by the PTA topped off a great day.  Thank you parents so much for helping your daughters.

The projects turned in Friday were great!  Most of the girls did exactly what was required and even more.  I will be posting pictures on this site soon.

Crazy Hair Day was a hoot!  The girls brought their 25 cents, and took compliments all day about how interesting it was that they were raising money for the PSE Relay for Life team.  This Friday is "Hippie Day".  The girls are excited about being able to dress like the psychedelic kids they have seen in pictures.  It should be fascinating to see what groovy outfits the girls come up with.  Many thanks to Danielle for bringing in the entire amount for our "Fun Friday" fund raiser events.  What a terrific idea.  Just remember, to be a cool hippie 25 cents must be donated to RFL.

Next week information will be coming home about the science project for March.  This project will be an interesting study of the planets and our solar system.  We will discuss this in class and then the information will come home.

As always, please contact me with email or a note if you have any comments or questions.

3/2 - hippie day

3/9 - slipper day

3/16 - dress as your favorite book character

3/23 - show & tell day

Valentine's Day and more

Valentine's Day will be fun in our room.  All the girls know it's my favorite day of the year!  After lunch we will exchange Valentine Cards and have an ice cream social.  The girls won this social during Red Ribbon Week for their participation.  Everyone should have a list of all the names of the 21 girls in our class.

I am posting the information I sent home about the February project.  Everyone was able to find information about their subject Friday in the Computer Lab.  We printed off pictures and articles so everyone has a "jumping off place" to start their report.  I hope that you will encourage your daughter to be very creative in presenting the information she learns.  Please contact me with any questions.Download february_project_on_women.doc

Remember that homework is due every Friday and that your daughter is responsible for reading at least 20 minutes every night.  This is very important.

Monday and Tuesday, February 19 & 20, are school holidays for all students.  This would be a great time for them to work on their projects.

Keep checking back here for the latest in our class information!

A New Year...A New Blog!

Welcome to our blog!  Please check here every few days or so to catch up on news from our class and special assignments.

This Friday, February 9 will be the day that our class honors their Grandparents with a luncheon at 11:55 in our cafeteria.  Please send your reservation forms in with the number of people that will attend with your daughter.

Next Tuesday don't miss the Powder Springs Multi-Cultural Night.  There will be special presentations, the chorus will sing and parents will be able to taste a sampling of some of the cultures that are represented in our student body.  If you would like to participate please return the blue form that came home with your daughter.  Last year this was one of our PTA's most highly attended events.

Wednesday, February 14 is Valentine's Day and, as the girls know, is my favorite time of year.  We will exchange Valentine Cards in our classroom after lunch and celebrate with the Ice cream party the girls won from PTA during Red Ribbon Week.  We have 21 in our "Ladybug" class now, so please plan accordingly.  I will send home a list of names on February 9.

The children will not attend school on Monday and Tuesday, February 19 & 20.  These days would be a great time for your daughter to practice and polish her report that she will be presenting to the class on Friday, February 23.

Read Across America is Monday, February 26.  More information will come closer to the date.

The big project for February is the report about a Famous American Woman.  Each girl will choose a woman from the list I sent home and make a creative report on her life.  Your daughter brought home a packet of information about the project today.  Their choice list is due to me this Friday.  Remember to let me know if you have any questions.
