What is a Form?

Our Kindergarten students learned about the Element of Art, Form, by discussing the artwork of Henry Moore.   Henry_moore_the_familyWe then created our own sculpures, using clay to make turtles.  They were able to personalize each one by adding texture to its shell, then painting them with different colors of glaze.  Our Kindergarten turtles are on display now in our PSE Panther Gallery.

Check out our PowerPoint Presentation about the artwork of Henry Moore.

Welcome back to ART!!!

Time_travel It is going to be an exciting year in Art!  Second through Fifth Grade will still be travelling back in time to check out the people and their artwork.  We will begin the year with Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome.  Kindergarten and First grade will be learning about those basics in Art that you can't create without - the Elements of Art and Priciples of Design.

Ancient Egyptian Unit: 5th Grade

Introduction

Second through fifth grade students at Powder Springs are learning about ancient Egypt.  The students were able to watch a video on Mummies and I presented a PowerPoint Presentation on Ancient Egyptian culture, government, religion, and art (of course!).  We discussed the how and why the Egyptians mummified their dead and analyzed the artwork of Richard Deuer, who mixed Egyptian imagery with contemporary ideas to create a work of art that is also a parody.  Here is a link to the PowerPoint Presentation (and some other great websites to learn more about ancient Egypt):

Late_for_work2 The fifth graders are creating their own Egyptian Parody inspired by the artwork of Richard Deuer.  The students will learn how to draw a person in proportion and how to draw "Egyptian style".  They will transfer their final "modern" Egyptian into a contomporary scene (like going to McDonald's).Rushhour2

Second through fifth grade students at Powder Springs are learning about ancient Egypt.  The students were able to watch a video on Mummies and I presented a PowerPoint Presentation on Ancient Egyptian culture, government, religion, and art (of course!).  We discussed the how and why the Egyptians mummified their dead and compared and contrasted two sculptures of Egyptian Pharaohs.  Here is a link to the PowerPoint Presentation (and some other great websites to learn more about ancient Egypt):

Project

EgypttutWe are making mummies!!  The second graders are making a symmetrical sarcophagus.   They will be adding a nemes (headdress) and collar to the design, then fill in with lines and shapes.  They will use both crayons and oil pastels to color it in.

Imagination in Control!

First grade has just finished up a project on light and shadow, creating their very own "Stained glass" of flowers inspired by Mexican artist, Luis Valentin.

Alien As we were finishing up, I decided we would draw our families, but with a twist!!!  The family had to be turned into aliens!!!  Boy, were they excited.  What first started out as a simple drawing has turned into a full blown project.  We are now going to trace over the drawing with black Sharpie markers, then paint them with watercolors.

This is giving me a chance to demonstrate to the students how to truly be painters by using the brushes and paint correctly!!!

Texture!!

Kindergarten has been learning that texture is "how something feels".  At the beginning of this lesson we passed around objects and described how they felt, like, soft, hard, bumpy, rough, smooth...

Koifish

We are now almost finished creating our Koi Pond!!! The students started this project by gluing down patterns of wavy paper, then added green "grass" to surround the "pond".  Texture was added using tissue paper to make flowers and grass.  We are now creating our Koi fish to fill up the pond!!
